Non-Profit

Nonprofit Research Consultant - Step Forward Academy

I had an opportunity to partner with a local nonprofit organization and was tasked with identifying primary marketing problems, conducting research with various stakeholders, and creating a comprehensive nonprofit marketing plan. Research process included collecting secondary research on industry related topics and marketing strategies, and primary research consisted of interviews of 2 employees, 3 B.O.D. members, 6 volunteers and 5 participants. Youth with a Mission (YWAM) is a global initiative aimed to equip, train and send out people from all over the world to aid in what they call "mercy ministries". Members usually attend a lecture phase hearing from various speakers, and then have the opportunity to go on the outreach phase in order to apply what they learned in their designated countries.

Sudanese Refugees in North Africa

One of the most rewarding outreaches was when I met and interacted with the Sudanese refugees who fled to a country in North Africa. Fortunately, YWAM Lausanne has had connections with the local community over the past decade, which allowed for direct communication regarding the type of aid these refugees needed. Most South Sudanese refugees were either fleeing the constant war  or the destruction war left behind. These refugees needed a new life, whether it was surviving in their new environment or hoping for relocation from the respective embassy.

My team and I were able to work closely with a Sudanese refugee community and help its members gain accreditation in fields such as nursing, carpentry, and textile operating. We would meet with the refugees three times a week over the course of 3 months and work alongside them in their respective studies. We would also hold workshops once a week for lessons on personal hygiene, English lessons, and even guitar lessons. Through the certification program, these refugees would not only be able to provide for their families in a foreign land, but also find hope to overcome the injustices of corruption, war, racism and separation.

I had to be quick in realizing that people like me are not the ones who continue this cycle of hope and determination. It is only by the will and desire of these refugees who are willing to sacrifice just a little bit more in order to live a life that is meaningful to them. These are the type of experiences I can look back on in order to see what type of change I could be making when I empower others using my strengths.
